National Herbarium and Plant Laboratories
Established in 1961 and located in Godawari at the foot of Phulchoki, the National Herbarium and Plant Laboratories (NHPL)—internationally coded as KATH—is a key office under Nepal’s Ministry of Forests and Environment. Tasked with documenting and preserving the nation’s botanical diversity, the NHPL conducts extensive surveys to collect and identify plant resources. These herbarium specimens offer:
Scientific Baseline: Essential data for identifying and classifying Nepal’s flora.
Environmental Tracking: A historical record to monitor changes in plant distribution.
Research Support: Vital resources for botanical, medicinal, and conservation studies.
